Captions

Caption production is different from foreign language subtitles. Subtitles are made for the hearing viewer, while captions were initially designed to assist deaf and hearing-impaired people.

Captions also provide additional information describing sound effects and music ("yelling in the background" "dance music playing"), and can be in different positions to identify the different actors.

In the countries where this is available, captions are accessed for free by the viewer using either a teletext TV or a digital set-top box. In the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, government access and equity provisions require a certain proportion of programming on television to be captioned. Commercials are captioned so that programs and advertising is accessible to the millions Deaf and hearing impaired viewers.

Captions can be accessed by Teletext enabled TV.

Captions are also produced to help non-hearing viewers, captions may have other uses such as assisting people in learning English through TV programs and providing on screen information in noisy environments.

Please Email us a brief description of your requirements. If you do not have an existing program to subtitle please estimate the the length of program, itemise the language/s you require, and your media (TV, Web, DVD, CD). We will respond within 3 hours of receipt of your brief.
