Typesetting

After your document is translated, it will be returned to you most likely by electronic file. If you're not sure of the best way to have your project formatted, don't worry... CTC will offer you a variety of options to fit your budget and needs. For example, the most economical way to have your project returned is in Microsoft Word. If further layout needs to be completed, we are able to accommodate you in a variety of programs on PC and Mac.

However, some languages like Thai and Khmer cannot always be returned in MS Word. The most typical format for these less common is to have them returned in Illustrator EPS outlines or as a PDF file. The difference is that you can manipulate text that is in an EPS outline in order to place it into your brochure or other layout. It also helps to maintain accents and fonts in any further formatting that you may do with the document. The EPS option also offers the best clarity. From there, it can go into another program such as Quark or PageMaker.

As a PDF, you can print it directly but you cannot manipulate and change the order of the text around. This option offers less clarity – it is fine for a hardcopy print but not suggested for a brochure or technical document.

1. Aims of typesetting

· The aim of typesetting is to reproduce the layout in a way that fits both the original artwork and the target language’s special requirement.
· It must follow the style and measurement of the source.
· Text expansion in target documents comes as no surprise. It is the DTP specialists’ key role to retrofit leveraged documentation that was not designed with target language’s special requirement in mind.

2. Flexible DTP Applications

From word processing to professional page layout on IBM compatible (PC) or Apple Macintosh platforms, we cover a wide range of programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Indesign, Adobe FrameMaker, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Publisher, Quark Xpress, Macromedia Freehand to name but a few of the applications with which CTC has expertise. CTC also produces webcontent in .NET Java and Flash and multimedia productions.

The completed translation will be formatted in-house to maintain quality control.

What output method can I take to print?

. High resolution PDF (recommended)
. Layout files, e.g. InDesign, Quark Xpress files, PageMaker files
. Artwork files for non-Romanic languages, i.e. EPS outline
. Layout files combined with artwork files, e.g. Quark Xpress with link to EPS outline
. Layout files for non-Romanic languages along with language fonts (not recommended since most print/design companies will not have the appropriate level of experience in laying out foreign language text!)
