Instant translation by machine very soon!
Machine translation (MT) has caught the public eye once again. The Wall Street Journal recently predicted that “the language barrier is about to fall” within 10 years. We are in the midst of an irrational euphoria about machine translation, with the most recent gadget being the in-ear machine translation tool. Since January 2016 survey was done to 900 global translation services on precisely how they use MT in their daily operations.
So what is the result?
MT is here to stay, MT is not doing away with human translators, post-edited MT is the growth opportunity for LSPs and new technologies are transforming the MT landscape.
Although the research shows that MT is profoundly changing the landscape of the language industry, it will not eliminate the need for second languages or replace translators any time soon.
